The numbers are staggering. In 2026, total billionaire wealth has reached an all-time high of $18.3 trillion. At the same time, the funding needed to protect the world’s most vulnerable communities from the climate crisis remains woefully inadequate. This is not just an economic anomaly; it is a moral catastrophe.

Research by organizations like Oxfam has highlighted the disproportionate carbon footprint of the ultra-wealthy. From private jets to massive investments in polluting industries, the 1% are responsible for more emissions than the poorest two-thirds of the world’s population combined.

The Inequality Crisis

The concentration of wealth in the hands of a few is directly undermining our ability to address the climate crisis. While billions of people lack basic access to clean water and energy, a handful of individuals are amassing wealth using a system that is destroying our shared home.

A Call for a Wealth Tax
